March NPD: Kratos reigns supreme, DS still on top

kratos_thumbThe latest adaventure of Kratos didn’t disappoint as the latest NPD chart reveals that Sony Santa Monica’s God of War III was the single-best selling SKU for the month of March with over 1.10 million units sold. On the other hand, Nintendo still dominates the hardware department with the DS moving 700,000 units with the help of the new DSi XL model. More after the jump.

The latest adaventure of Kratos didn’t disappoint as the latest NPD chart reveals that Sony Santa Monica’s God of War III was the single-best selling SKU for the month of March with over 1.10 million units sold. On the other hand, Nintendo still dominates the hardware department with the DS moving 700,000 units with the help of the new DSi XL model. According to NPD analyst Anita Frazier:

This is the first non-holiday year-on-year increase for the industry since February 2009, and the third best non-holiday month ever — welcome news after a year laced with eroded consumer confidence.

God Of War III bested the introduction of God Of War II by 32 percent. Final Fantasy XIII also enjoyed the best launch for any item in the franchise, outstripping Final Fantasy XII’s first month sales by 48 per cent, while Battlefield: Bad Company 2 outsold the original by 170 per cent during its launch month. Although Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 failed to make the top ten, it is now the second bestselling game of all time in the US, behind Wii Play.
