Nintendo‘s take on one of the world’s most popular sports will be hitting Europe next month. The company has just announced that Mario Strikers: Charged Football for the Nintendo Wii video games console will be kicking off across Europe on May 25.

Mario Strikers: Charged Football brings together some of Nintendo’s most popular characters for some 5-on-5 soccer action. Emphasis is put on each team’s captain, who each have unique abilities and enhanced skills, allowing them to really influence the outcome of a game.

The Wiimote also adds a dynamic new element to Mario Strikers: Charged Football. Basic movement and strikes are executed using the analogue stick and buttons on the Wiimote and nunchuk. Flicking the Wiimote will cause the character to check their opponent, hopefully stealing the ball in the process.

There’s also a multiplayer mode where two gamers can team up and play against two others. Mario Strikers: Charged Football also offers support for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service for some truly international two-on-two matches.
