Mark Rein: Gears of War is not going to the PS3

Mark Rein and Cliff Bleszinski - Image 1Friendly competition is never a bad thing. If people would just see Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft (in no particular order) as rivals in delivering the best gaming experience, there won’t be console wars or needs for flame shields. In other words: calm down, boys and girls. Let’s not bash anyone because of this.

Rumor of a Gears of War sequel finding its way on the PS3 was seen in Sony Protection Group through a forum post from their forum member Lefein (who sourced CVG). Word of Cliff Bleszinski threatening Microsoft with this for developer rights on the game and XBL also circulated the intarwebs.

However, Mark Rein was quick on the trigger and gave his piece on the matter. On Gears of War‘s official forum, he posted: “This story is complete bull****. I emailed the site and asked them to take it down. We’re very happy with our relationship with Microsoft. If it weren’t for them Gears wouldn’t be the huge hit it has become.”

Here’s the e-mail Rein sent to SPG regarding the matter:

Please remove that complete bull**** story about Gears going to PS3. Cliff Bleszinski has NEVER been quoted as “threatening Microsoft to port over Gears to the PS3″. We’re very happy with our relationship with Microsoft and are extremely grateful of everything theyÂ’ve done to help make Gears the huge success it has become.

Part of that success came from being an Xbox 360 exclusive FIRST PARTY title and Microsoft getting behind it in a huge way. They’re the publisher of Gears of War and, unless they say otherwise, there is no chance Gears is coming to PS3. For PS3 we have Unreal Tournament 3 and itÂ’s going to be fantastic.

There you have it, straight from the man himself. PS3 owners won’t be getting GoW, but Epic’s still got UT3 for them. Now that this is resolved, let’s give each other a big warm hug and just enjoy our games.
