Mass Effect 2: Loading screens and movies in lieu of elevators

masseffect2Elevators. You know they’re important because they bring you from point A to point B in less time, with less effort. Even video game heroes need the use of this trusty technology, especially if they’re on the run to save the world/universe/galaxy. But in video games, taking that ride up the elevator could be tedious, particulary for impatient players. Like in Mass Effect 2 (Xbox 360, PC).

Previously, BioWare has said that they will be implementing a “completely new system” to deal with this elevator dilemma. Today, however, Thomas Roy opens up the topic again and reveals that they have instead opted to put in “loading screens and movies.” Here’s how he explained it. The players will still be using elevators – or at least will be shown walking inside one – and while they are on their way to wherever they’re supposed to go, the game will be loading “interesting visuals and information.” So no, you won’t have to come up with small talk about how you prefer your Spamwich cooked (crisp on the edges, soft on the center) while inside the elevator anymore.

Hey, you guys ever noticed those little TV screens beside elevators in office buildings, supposedly to make the wait a bit more tolerable? I’m thinking the “loading screens and movies” for Mass Effect 2 would be something like that. If you think about it, it’s actually the perfect spot for an advertisement. I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s the next thing they put in there.
