Aside from the fantasy universe MMORPG companies love to tackle, another emerging territory nowadays is the science fiction theme. Another gaming company with plans to enter the scene is Masthead Studios, bringing with it the game called Earthrise.
The game is set hundreds of years after the third world war. Humans now re-emerge after a long clone storage and are awed by the difference that have took place in their once familiar homeland.
In a recent interview, Masthead Studios CEO Atanas Atanasov said that they decided to delved into the scene after their research have told them that MMO gamers clamor for sci-fi games with a well developed economy and crafting.
Aside from that, Atanasov also shared that Earthrise also comes with a rich lore and background story to keep players glued to the game. The CEO added:
We have a team of professional writers in the studio, who have produced hundreds of pages of rich detailed sci-fi setting material, a massive backstory that we will be releasing piece by piece in the future.
Probably the most noteworthy feature of Earthrise is that it allows players to advance in the game while staying offline. As this is somewhat new to MMORPGs, Atanas Atanasov further discussed:
The offline progression is different than the one in EVE Online. All combat and crafting skills will advance online. While offline, the players will have the opportunity to gather income and advance in a more social aspect of the game.
For those who are already interested, the CEO said that they plan to come up with a public beta in the future. After that, the game will be available to players via subscription-based business model.
