Kotaku’s Michael McWhertor reports that “With the exception of the Xbox 360“, console sales – for the NDS all the way to the PS3 across the Pacific area, have seen a spike at retail. Below are what he claims to be Japan videogame market watcher”>Media Create figures for the week of February 4 to 11 2007.

  • Nintendo DS Lite – 201,177
  • Wii – 78,550
  • PSP – 32,175
  • PlayStation 3 – 23,431
  • PlayStation 2 – 16,033
  • Xbox 360 – 4,811
  • Game Boy Advance SP – 980
  • Game Boy micro – 884

Compare this to the previous week’s numbers and you’ll see that pretty much everything sold a lot better. Judging from the numbers, we feel that one could safely say that despite heavy criticism, the PS3 isn’t “dead” yet. It’s just not on top. We’ll leave the interpretation of that, and speculation regarding the console’s (the PS3s) future to you folks. As for the PSP, it’s good to see that’s it’s up at third. So what if it’s not top dog? It’s still selling.

Anyway, given that it seems that every one and their pet dog in Japan owns a DS lite, we’re wondering how come the folks at Nintendo are having difficulty translating all of that into a healthy Wii supply. Well, at least they’re very apologetic and humble about it.
