Pandemic Studios had a PS2 hit with the open-ended sandbox war action game Mercenaries. Now Pandemic is ready to take the game to the next-generation systems with the game’s follow-up, Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. The sequel will show a reconstructed “playground of destruction” that will fit the next-gen technology. As Pandemic CEO Andrew Goldman pointed out, “…while we’re building on the core mercenary experience we created for the original, we’ve taken full advantage of next-gen technology to offer a more richly detailed, reactive, living world than gamers have ever seen before.” The second Mercenaries game will also veer away from North Korea and take place in a new locale.

As of the moment, Pandemic is mum as to what console Mercenaries 2 will appear on. Full details will be out by E3, they say. And since E3 is just a few days away, we won’t have to wait a long time to get the scoop on Mercenaries 2: World in Flames.
