Earlier this week Nintendo revealed that Metroid Prime: Hunters for the Nintendo DS has been delayed into 2006. Today, the company announced that the game will be using that extra time so the development team can implement support for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection online service. Previously, the game was only to work locally with four players wirelessly, but with support for Nintendo’s service, players will be able to compete in Metroid Prime: Hunters over the Internet.

Metroid Prime: Hunters will also make an appearance at the Penny Arcade Expo in Bellevue, Washington this weekend, where players will be able to sample the single player mode of this Nintendo DS first person shooter. This Expo will also mark the debut of three previously unannounced bounty hunter characters, including Sylux, a ruthless sharpshooter who harbors an intense hatred for Metroid heroine Samus Aran; Trace, a young outcast who seeks power and a planet to invade; and Weavel, a cyborg Space Pirate assassin. We’ll have more on Metroid Prime: Hunters as it progresses in its development cycle.
