MGS4 powers Konami’s Q1 sales hike
Konami is grinning wide with a million dollar smile right now as it released a press release containing information on its Q1 financial performance. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has powered its huge revenue and profit spike, sealing the PlayStation 3’s reputation as a good platform to release third-party games on. More after the jump.
It seems that the PlayStation 3 is really powering up third-party publisher revenues in the past fiscal quarter. After we heard of EA spiking its PS3 sales by nearly 1000 percent, Konami reports that it also benefited big time from the platform.
Much of this is due to the stellar market performance of its outstanding exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. The game has shipped more than three million units since its June 12 debut, triggering a 16.4 percent overall sales increase for the company.
As it stands, 57.3 percent of all Konami’s Q1 business involved the PS3. This is a huge leap from last year’s mark which showed just 1.3 percent of Konami sales coming from the console.
Translated into hard cash, this means Konami raked in US$ 656.1 million in the past quarter alone. Profits were gauged at US$ 108.6 million, making the company’s shareholders very happy indeed.
