Microsoft cuts HD-DVD player price, brings 300 and Heroes to Xbox Live

Over at Comic-Con 07, Microsoft has announced that they’re cutting the price of the HD-DVD player from US$ 199 to US$ 179. Microsoft is also adding five free movies into the mix for those folks purchasing the Xbox HD-DVD drive, though it’s a mail in offer where you can pick from a set of 15 titles.

In addition, its recent press release from Comic-Con also revealed that Xbox Live users will be able to enjoy “300” and “Heroes” on their console. To promote the upcoming release of “300” and “Heroes” in HD-DVD, Microsoft will be offering “300” on the Xbox Live Video Marketplace beginning August 14. “Heroes” fans will also be able to pick up a copy of the pilot episode of the show through Xbox Live Video Marketplace for free, though the date of that promotion has yet to be announced.

In any case, it looks to be an exciting time for folks hoping to get more high definition goodness out of their console. We’re certainly impressed with the offer.
