Microsoft Doubles 360 Production to Stay Ahead of the Competition
According to the Taiwanese chip manufacturers who provide Microsoft with chips for the graphics card in the Xbox 360, production for the next-gen console will double. This means that Microsoft will be making about 3 million Xbox 360s per month instead of 1.5 million. Microsoft, who wants desperately to be the market leader this generation, is hoping to create as large a gap as possible before Sony and Nintendo launch with the PS3 and Revolution later this year. By the end of the Xbox’s life cycle, it was behind the PS2 by more than 60 million units and ahead of the Gamecube by about 4 million units.
