Microsoft: every console has had a price decrease
There’s a “Seattle Times” report that focuses on the business side of our favorite corporate entity: Microsoft. Since we’re all about the Xbox 360 here, we’ll skip to the gaming-related stuff. The report highlights this comment made by Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
When asked about the potential of a price cut on their Xbox 360 console. He said the following:
I think every console in the world has had a price decrease sometime in the first few years. I don’t know whether we’ll have a price decrease in the first few years, and I don’t want to comment on that, but I will highlight for you that every console has had a price decrease in the first few years.
A slew of business analysts and executives had tons of things to say about this particular comment, and each had their own take on what this means to the business world. Since we’re all gamers here, we think those things don’t particularly matter to you folks, that or you’re all sick of hearing them already. So what we’ll do is we’ll just ask you folks about your opinions.
How truthful is Ballmer’s statement really? If it is indeed true, how will it affect the current console war? Would a price cut for the 360 compound with the year-worth head-start, online community, hobbyist support, and available game library that it worked oh-so-hard to build?
