Microsoft: no Wi-Fi for the 360

Wi-Fi logo - Image 1Those who want built-in wireless connectivity on Microsoft‘s Xbox 360 console may just have to wait a little bit longer. The software and gaming mogul currently has no plans of integrating Wi-Fi technology within any of their Xbox 360 SKUs, despite the fact that both of the Xbox’s rival consoles, Sony’s PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii, have Wi-Fi built into their boxes.

Reasoning that they don’t want people to pay for technology that they don’t want, a Microsoft spokesperson said that they can purchase the Wi-Fi dongle if they want their Xbox 360 connected wirelessly. Said the spokesperson:

We currently include an Ethernet cable and 1 month’s free subscription to the Xbox Live service. We don’t want people not interested in wireless connectivity having to play for a technology they don’t want.

This move is similar to Microsoft excluding HDMI ports from the first batch of Xbox 360 consoles, despite the fact that the console is compatible with high definition resolution.
