Microsoft UK confident with 360 this Christmas
This year’s Holiday season is shaping up to be crucial for the gaming industry, so we can expect fierce competition as major game companies vie for market dominance. Microsoft UK, however, is quite confident that Xbox 360 sales will remain strong.
Marketing Manager Dan Cornelius told MCV UK that a lower price point should sell consoles. “If you look at PS3, itÂ’s a lot of money for families to come in at,” he said. Core units are now available at £ 179.99, while Premiums can get off shelves for £ 249.99. An Elite should cost around £ 299.99.
“Sony is requiring a fairly novice gamer to enter into things like Blu-Ray and wireless gaming by default. The CoreÂ’s still doing well for us in the UK and the price drop is bound to produce a spike in sales,” Cornelius reasoned. He went on saying some customers want cheaper gaming machines, not a multimedia powerhouse that Sony offers.
“We can gain access to a type of consumer that PS3 cannot,” he continued. Cut-price consoles are also hoping to steal interest from the Sony PS3. According to Cornelius, Microsoft UK believes that the 360 is in stronger position than other competitors. Such lead is expected to hold out ’til Christmas time.
