It’s official. Wheelman developer Midway Newcastle has been shut down following failed efforts to find a buyer before the end of the notification time required by UK law. The announcement was made at the studio by Midway CEO Matt Booty in front of the 80 or so people who had to be let go.
“During the notification period we were actively searching for bidders, and since we didn’t find any unfortunately it was necessary to close it down,” Midway spokesman Geoffrey Mogilner told Kotaku. “We tried really hard to find a solution for the Newcastle studio.”
Necessary Force, the new IP that was being shopped around by Midway Newcastle, also remains to be purchased, although Mogilner said that they’re still actively looking for a buyer.
Midway San Diego, another studio facing closure, still has until September to find a buyer.
