Midway: The Wheelman faces high expectations

The Wheelman - Image 1With Vin Diesel starring as the lead in The Wheelman (PC, Xbox 360, PS3), and Midway collaborating with Tigon Studios to deliver the finished product, it’s no surprise that expectations are rising high, and the stakes, too. It doesn’t hurt as well that Tigon Studios is founded by the Hollywood star himself. Read up after the jump.

The Wheelman cover art - Image 1We’ve seen Vin Diesel shift the action all the way to the fifth gear in The Fast and The Furious. And he certainly isn’t hitting the brakes anytime soon on car gymnastics and cool racing dramas.

As you may very well know, Vin Diesel is the lead star in Midway’s The Wheelman, revving up for the PC, Xbox 360 and the PS3. In this game, the former Triple X agent shares his character render to play an undercover agent – and unsurprisingly – a highly skilled driver. His mission, to make his way into the Barcelona underworld and uncover a heist.

Of course, since he’s an undercover, he cannot go about carrying his own persona, and so assumes the identity of a driver-for-hire and soon finds himself in the  middle of “corruption and chaos”. He needs to get out (alive of course), but not before he finds what he sought out in the first place.

Now if you have Barcelona as the backdrop for the game, and you have Vin Diesel carrying the lead role, wouldn’t you have high expectations for it? Of course you would. And Midway, half of the development team taking care of The Wheelman’s production (the other half of the partnership is Tigon Studios, founded by Vin Diesel himself) has said that their expectation really is high for the game.

“Expectations are high for The Wheelman, both internally and externally,” Leonie Manshanden, Midway’s European marketing director, divulges. “Reactions from all our European partners have been extremely positive. One of the key reasons for this is undoubtedly Vin Diesel’s involvement. Aside from being a huge box office attraction in the action genre, he also knows games.”

A Hollywood action star that plays games and has subsequently created his own developing studios (that’s Tigon, y’all)? That sure makes for some great equation leading to high equations. We’ll see if the expectations are met when the game goes out this autumn.
