What is “Krieg“? This is actually a German word which literally means “war, conflict, confrontation.” However, it’s been used as a slang in modern times to now describe the German metal bands as “cool”, which, coincidentally, are also said to play a big role in the soundtrack.
As for the background of the story, it’s set on a post-catastrophic landscape, thanks to Mother Nature’s awesome and awful wrath. Natural disasters, one after the other, lashes back against man.
From snowstorms to giant rots breaking through the ground in the middle of the city, poisonous gases and liquids, climbing plants, even the animals have mutated and are now called “Hybrids”. Simply put, nature has made Earth one place that man wouldn’t want to live in, not that they could.
As to the gameplay, Mikami said that player may use certain unique techniques and may possibly have capabilities similar to the plants that surround him, so this kind of sounds like you’ll have the ability to channel the powers of the plants or something like that.
Overall, Krieg is building itself up to be a “freeroam Fallout style (post-apocalyptic setting with RPG elements in real time)” kind of game. As this is the first time we’re hearing about this game, we have, of course, no idea yet when this will come out. We do know, however, that it will be exclusive for the PS3.
