Video game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and his Nintendo creations - Image 1During the commemorative 1000th issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu, they were able to talk with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto about some of the company’s future plans. Among the topics discussed were the possibility of more titles based on the Wii Balance Board, more sequels, and hints regarding the new features the DS will be sporting.

The recent success of Wii Fit in Japan during the past year gave rise to the idea that Nintendo may look into releasing it outside the country. If the game sees success overseas, Nintendo may end up releasing separate titles that make use of the Balance Board peripheral that goes with it.

Namco Bandai has already released the first title using the Balance Board with Family Ski, which opens up the possibility of a new trend of games for the already innovative console.

Other games discussed by Miyamoto were sequels for Super Mario Galaxy, as well as the next The Legend of Zelda title. While no specifics were given, we can expect both to be just as big as its previous releases.

Miyamoto also hinted about the new features that the Nintendo DS will be sporting in the coming year. He mentioned that they wanted DS owners setting up servers to create a play environment shared between the home and outdoors – possibly a more versatile extension of the Nintendo Wi-Fi network.
