Developer’s note:

This is my third revision of the VU meter mod for the psp. This time I have gone for a totally digital version of a vu meter. A PICAXE-28×1 replaces the quad opamp from the previous version. My reasoning for doing this was that the opamp version had a bug that would mean that as each led would decrease in brightness as the level rose. Not a major issue but one that bugged me never the less. In addition to this as the leds are individually controlled I was able to add animated transitions between each mode. There is also a “sleep” animation. This is triggered whenever there is no sound being played.
