If you’ve gotten used to the four-player campaign co-op in Call of Duty: World at War, try to get over it if you’re also planning to get Modern Warfare 2. The latter not only won’t support four-player co-op, it won’t even have a campaign co-op mode at all. Instead it’ll have a two-player Special Ops mode.

“We donÂ’t do co-op in our story because weÂ’re crafting a very specific experience and we donÂ’t want to ruin that by cramming co-op into it,” said Infinity Ward‘s Robert “fourzerotwo” Bowling to VideoGamer. ” We take the moments that work really well with co-op, we bring them out and we put them in Special Ops.”

“Sometimes moments get toned down because they don’t fit with the pacing of the experience you’re trying to deliver. There (in Special Ops) it’s all about fun. It’s about playing over and over again, getting a better time – you’ll have a time at the end of it – it’s about challenging a friend going in on co-op and trying to beat it on veteran.”

Bowling also explained the decision to go with two players: “Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. ThatÂ’s when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf**k of things. We just found that two-players was the most fun.”

Modern Warfare 2 will be out November 10 on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.
