Modern Warfare 2 sold nearly five million copies in North America and UK at day one
If Activision‘s internal estimates are to be believed, then the much-hyped, much-anticipated launch of Modern Warfare 2 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC was successful as it was planned out to be, selling five million copies on its first day in North America and the UK combined.
If Activision‘s internal estimates are to be believed, then the much-hyped, much-anticipated launch of Modern Warfare 2 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC was successful as it was planned out to be, selling nearly five million copies on its first day in North America and the UK combined.
The figure is based on sell-through sales, where Activision reports to have raked in a whopping US$ 310 million during the first 24 hours of sale. That’s 4.7 million copies in just two regions. That number still excludes the broken street date sales and the sales in other regions.
MCV UK already reported that Modern Warfare 2 sold 1.23 million in the United Kingdom, and if that’s accurate, then North America must have pitched in for the rest of the 4.7 million. Worldwide sales figures might actually be closer to analyst Ben Schachter’s estimate of 7 million.
