More Final Fantasy XI Chocobo Breeding Details

Chocobos

Recently, we reported that players of Final Fantasy XI will now be able to breed their own chocobos. Developer Square Enix has now come out with some additional details on this. Historically chocobos have been used for farming, hunting, general labour and, most commonly, for transportation. It is only recently, however, that chocobo breeding has become a major phenomenon among common adventurers.

In any event, it now appears that there will be five distinct breeds of chocobos:

  • Destrier: From San d’Oria, this breed is fitted with heavy armor for use as cavalry. They are jet black, and very strong.
  • Courser: Large chocobos, ideal for Elven riders, and very graceful. Occasionally grow red feathers.
  • Palfrey: Raised mostly in Bastok and on Zepwell Island, this one is bred to withstand desert conditions, and are usually blue or yellow.
  • Jennet: This breed was created  magically  to create a Chocobo small enough for a Tarutaru. Some green variations  were also created bred for Mithra, who wanted a stealthy ride through the jungle.
  • Rounsey: A mid-sized creature, the most common type of Chocobo.
