More Info and Screens for Darkfall

Darkfall

Darkfall is not another WoW clone. According to Associate Producer Tasos Flambouras and Lead Programmer Kjetil Helland, Darkfall is the MMO game for all those gamers who are looking for something fresh.

This latest from Adventurine will feature a fast-paced PvP system wherein the player's skill matters as much the character's skill. And you better have the skills to make your way through this game – current MMO's safezones won't be present in Darkfall to protect you. This means that you can attack and be attacked at any time and in any place.

This also leads to more responsibility. Since you have the freedom to strike at a place and time of you convenience, you also have the freedom to attack members of your own race. But this comes with grave consequences to your character's alignment. Branded as evil, your character will no longer be able to trade in most cities and may be forayed on-sight by town guards. Another difference in Darkfall's system is that there will be no levels. Character advancement will be skill-based. This, according to Tasos, will allow for a more realistic encounter. Whereas in many MMOs a level 50 player can easily dominate a level 1 player, this Adventurine MMO permits 4 or 5 new players to team up and battle a more experienced player.

There will also be a huge number of possible character customization options. Darkfall will have 500 spells to choose from.

The developers' love for FPS games also influenced the MMO's gameplay. Instead of just sitting back, clicking on a spell every now and then, and watching characters do auto-attack, players will be required to aim and then click to attack.

If you've been waiting for naval combats to go to MMO, then Darkfall is the game for you. This game boasts of the first full-scale naval PvP combat. Ships will come in a variety of sizes and can also be used to attack land-based targets. But don't think that the land-based targets are defenseless; they can counter-attack by aiming their cannons to your ship.

Just to test your planning skills, Darkfall will feature a dynamic weather system that can and will affect your battle plans. For the would-be attacking ships, a sudden change of wind can interrupt your ship's maneuver. The land lovers will also have to watch out for foggy days that can decrease visibility. Luckily enough, Darkfall includes a way to forecast upcoming weather conditions (and hopefully, Darkfall way is more accurate than that of the local channel's weather guy).

As of now, there is still no word as to when this Adventurine MMO will come out. Let's just wait and see if this game's worth the wait.
