More juicy Resistance: Fall of Man preview appetizers
Just as Resistance: Fall of Man rolls off the presses to make PS3 launch day, more details on this shooter roll off the press. Today, we bring you 1UP’s preview of Resistance that offers a bit more on the game than previous previews, like a bit more of online and the SIXAXIS.
Okay, first the preview goes online. Here are the new stuff we’ve learned. First, there will be ranked and unranked matchmaking, and Insomniac will be very strict about stats and matches in ranked. Definitely no more n00b-raping to boost kill stats, they declare as an example. Second, there will be many, many maps to play in, each scaled for the number of dead bodies expected to litter its ground – from the maximum of 40 players down.
Third, player rankings will be military-style – with corresponding “salad-bar” achievement-decorations to boot. Get a ribbon for doing “cool” instant-gratification stuff like head shots, get a medal for turning that into a habit, or doing other long-term achievements in the game.
Next, the preview goes to control. Resistance will use the SIXAXIS’ six axes for control – and not just necessarily motion, but for practical uses, too. Forgot the melee attack button? Thrust your SIXAXIS forwards: knife in the guts. Want to break weapon’s lock on an opponent, or want to break out of the putrid embrace of a Chimera opponent? Shake that SIXAXIS like J Lo’s booty, baby. There’s more, but that’ll wait till launch day.
Finally, AI. Unfortunately, all that 1UP saw, IGN saw before, and… you get the drift. But hey, now we know how SIXAXIS will be used in Resistance.
