More PS3 launch details

PS3The slightest utterance of November boosts brains into thinking of Halloween; of the cheaply-made costumes that elicit laughter than fear, and sugary treats. Well that was the case until 2006. Now, in any gaming forums, blogs, and online discussions bring the 11th month up and the first things that come to mind are the classy PS3 and sugary Wii – both launching on the said month.

FiringSquad was able to score an interview with Sony Computer Entertainment America Corporate Communications member Kimberly Otzman to have a better picture what SCEA has up in its sleeves come PS3’s launch. Wanna know more if this could be the year the Grim Reaper owns Santa? Read on.

When asked on why the units for US is four times as many as those that will be released in Japan, Otzman explained that it’s not because they consider US a bigger market but that it’s just part of their marketing strategy to “deliver 100K units a week and still reach” the projected number of six million units worldwide by the end of FY06.

Another sensitive issue touched was the recent predictions that Sony might end up losing the console wars later on despite its advantage hardware-wise over Nintendo’s Wii and Microsoft‘s Xbox 360. This is supposedly due to the recent launching problems being encountered with the company’s next-generation machine. To this, she confidently answered “if you look at our history, weÂ’ve launched our platforms ahead of our competitors and weÂ’ve launched after, either way, weÂ’ve proven our success time and again.”

Other topics tackled were the allocations of SKUs for North America; launch unit figures; the PS3’s online network; the HDMI addon; and the final lineup of games for the said console’s launch.
