Motomu Toriyama, did you say “possible game multiplayer”?
This one’s like a bolt of Lightning from the blue. Dedicated Final Fantasy website Forever Fantasy (quite the appropriate name) spotted this scan containing an interview with Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama, from where? Can’t say; Forever Fantasy wasn’t able to ID the article either. Further research revealed posters from NeoGAF pointing out that it’s from a TGS 2006 pamphlet.
Yeah, if that’s true, that makes this news post pretty medieval. Still, what got our attention was…
A proper translation is to come, says Forever Fantasy, but what they could immediately glean from said scan is how Toriyama believes that the PS3 is the ideal console for FFXIII, and how they use high-end CG to invoke emotions from the player – but we’ve heard those lines before. About the CG thing, not only is it an expectation, but we’re betting Final Fantasy fans have made a new demand since last year: that the result better pop Glenn Entis’ unbelieving eyes out. But that’s not the point.
It was the use of the word “multiplayer.” Probably blame it on Forever Fantasy not having a proper translation yet, but like we said: the person who brought up the scan said the Toriyama interview was also “about a possible game multiplayer” (NeoGAF is still arguing about the graphics thing, by the way). The question is, what the heck was it referring to?
- An actual game multiplayer component in FFXIII?
- One of the Fabula Nova Crystallis games being multiplayer (Haeresis?)?
- Motomu’s desire to work on a multiplayer game?
- Or did someone just horribly misunderstand the scan? In which case, who wants to translate this scan?
We ain’t putting our foot down on this until we get this thing in verbatim English.
