MS says ‘No’ to Xbox 360 Price Drop

Console warA lot of you may have been hanging on those well-stashed benjamins in anticipation of the rumored Xbox 360 price drop by around $100 USD before Christmas, well, prepare your mallets; not for your piggy banks, but for pounding grandma’s unused pillow at the attic to relieve your frustration. As you might have guessed by now, official word has come from MS stating that there are currently no plans for a price drop this fall.

It seems that the Bill Gates-owned company is confident enough on riding on the bad PR PlayStation 3 has been lately receiving (downgrade rumors, of course the price, etc.) that it won’t make a price-cut effort to pad its current 10 million consoles sold lead over Sony‘s next-gen machine. It has been earlier speculated that the Xbox 360 will be offered in a cheaper price to better veer away the market’s interest over the looming arrival of PS3.

Still, this may be a risky move for Microsoft‘s part because it may be overlooking the threat Nintendo’s Wii is posing. Arguably having the most promising innovations so far, Wii is also expected to carry a price tag not higher than $250 USD.

Now that Microsoft has decided to keep the $299 pricetag on 360s, will it finally convince reluctant spenders to stop waiting for a price drop and start bagging their console, or have they just prodded them to wait a little longer not for PS3 perhaps, but for Wii? It’s getting harder and harder to predict the outcome of these moves, what do you think?
