Multi-touch Screen Interface : Gaming Applications

Touch ScreenThe problem with most touch screen technology is that it can’t detect multiple points of contact at the same time. The movie Minority Report presented an alternative and showed everyone how cool a multi-touch screen interface would really be.

This isn’t really breaking news, we’ve already reported on the efforts of a development team at the University of New York (in that article, we posted a video of the system in action). But we think the technology is really promising and offers us a very good preview into what the future of gaming or even interaction with electronics will be like.

Imagine playing an RTS using a multi-touch screen. Imagine being able to dab your finger at two points of a touch screen and have something relevant happen while playing an FPS. Cool huh? For those who agree, we’ve found this video that you guys might like. It features Jeff Han showing off the Multi-touch Screen Interface at the SIGGRAPH Conference 2006. Enjoy.
