Music downloads coming soon to PS Store Australia

We learned yesterday that Microsoft is not going to offer any music downloads for its Xbox Live Marketplace service anytime soon. It should be remembered that XBL GM JJ Richards commented that they feel that music is already available on the console anyway. Sony doesn’t seem to share Microsoft’s opinion, though.

In a Sony press conference held today, it was announced that PlayStation 3 owners in Australia will soon be able to download music videos from the PlayStation Store. Given all the content available at the PlayStation Network (PSN), this is actually the first time a download unrelated to gaming is being offered.

This development was made possible by the recent agreement between Sony Games Division in Australia and Sony BMG. Initially, ten music videos will be available for free and Sony added that this is just a trial period. It was not mentioned what exact videos will be released.
