Wind energy - Image 1When people aren’t talking about the economy, they are talking about the environment. Namco Bandai, for one, announced their “Enjoyable Game, Beautiful Earth Campaign” in Japan yesterday. What this campaign aims for is to basically engage players to play games on green energy.

2009 will see this campaign applied to Wii and PS3 titles, with the games having a serial number which can then be input in a special website. This serial number will then allow Namco to buy Renewable Energy Credits to take care of up to 30 hours of play time for the game. I know of Carbon trading, and even that isn’t exactly panning out as it should. But Energy Credits for games? Interesting.

See, these Energy Credits will then cover the costs for a carbon-free method that will then be used for producing energy. For this Japan campaign, said energy will be harvested from wind sources in Hokkaido and Akita regions.

And because you cared enough to carry out that simple task of inputting that serial number, you will then receive a special Renewable Energy Certificate with Namco Bandai character artwork. Not sure if you can get to pick the artwork, but we do know they’re working on around sixty varieties.

So be a responsible, environment-friendly gamer. You can check out the Namco Bandai campaign website at the source link below. Now you don’t have to go out hug trees to drive home your point.
