Name them all: Retro Gamer Wii cover

The cover. This is a gorgeous cover. Makes us feel warm and Ninty-giddy. As you know, Retro Gamer is the UK’s only magazine that is “fully dedicated to retro gaming and is highly respected within both the games industry and the retrogaming community” (at least that’s what the press release said, heehee). Seriously though, I used to get this magazine (there was a local distributor), and it was always an enjoyable and informative read, so I’m willing to believe their claim that they’re “highly respected.”

pretty cover

Anyway, they’ve teamed up with Nintendo to promote the launch of the Wii. So that’s why there’s this Wii cover illustrated by the artist Wil Overton. (By the way, the artist Wil Overton used to work on the covers of the Nintendo magazine Super Play.)

The Wii and classic gaming. What’s a next-gen console doing on a retro gaming mag? What’s so retro about innovative Wii-remote-waving gameplay? It’s because of the Virtual Console that lets gamers download classics like Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog.

Heck, when you think Nintendo, you think classic gaming characters anyway! I still play Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Gino D. still plays Super Metroid and Myra M. still plays Chrono Trigger and Street Fighter.

Can you name them all? The first person to identify all the characters on the cover won’t win anything like a free Wii (this isn’t the get a chance to win a Wii if you buy a Slurpee contest), but you will get the respect of your peers. *smirk*
