New AirPod designs to be added to the electronics lineup for the fall of 2024.

AirPods will be available in more colors and sizes
Last updated 51 minutes agoApple will likely update its non-Pro AirPods line alongside other new hardware starting next month, replacing current entry-level AirPods. Bloomberg reports that Apple will release two versions of its fourth-generation AirPods: a lower-priced model featuring basic functionality and a higher priced version with active noise cancellation. This model may replace the third generation model. The design changes will likely help distinguish the two models. AirPods 2, the most basic model, are currently priced at $129 but they are often on sale. AirPods 3 are $179, and they are similar to the noise-cancelling AirPods Pro but different. The AirPods charging cases will likely be moved to USB-C instead of Lightning connectors, which is one reason for the change in the AirPods lineup. The charging case for the mid-tier AirPods 4 is likely to also include wireless charging. The company is also working to create a new firmware for Airpods Pro, which will include new head gesture controls and improved noise isolation. These features could be included in the fourth-gen AirPods’ mid-tier model. Apple is likely include Spatial Audio in both models, as well as Apple Watch charging via the case’s integrated battery. The AirPods 2 will be discontinued, but the AirPods 3 could continue to be sold at a discounted price for a while. The new report is mostly in line with previous rumors regarding an update to AirPods. Apple has not confirmed if it will release a third generation of AirPods Pro. However, the company did promise improved voice isolation with a future firmware update. The new AirPods models will likely be announced at a special event next month along with new iPhone, iPad and Mac models. AppleInsider will have full coverage of Apple’s September 2024 event.
