New Bioshock trailer: the Medical Facility, the doctor is in
Judging from the BioshockHunting the Big Daddy video, the City of Rapture is not a fun place to live in. And if wasn’t enough to creep you out – or reel you in – Irrational Games‘ creative director Ken Levine talked with IGN about Bioshock‘s Medical Facility.
According to Levine, the city of Rapture was inspired by New York in the 30’s and 40’s. He even took some pictures of the Rockefeller Center, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building and others. Now, considering the Big Daddies and Little Sisters – the medical facility might just be one of the creepiest places in the City of Rapture (just check out the trailer/walkthrough below). In the Medical Facility, we see Dr. Steinman’s clinic. Who is Dr. Steinman? According to Levine, he’s the guy bent over another person in the surgery room. Just think: a mad plastic surgeon. (oh the horror!) Levine adds (careful not to give any spoilers):
Dr. Steinman, as he starts going crazier, takes over the whole medical area. You hear his diaries: “Why am I trapped within normal interpretations of beauty? Why can’t I be more like Picasso?” He wants to be allowed non traditional, even cubist interpretations of beauty. Eventually he starts walking down the hallways, thinking he’s talking to Aphrodite about beauty. And you follow this descent into insanity. You hear about his descent, you see it on the walls. Eventually you come across his surgery theater and encounter him operating. He’s not happy to see you. That’s like a subchapter in the story of BioShock.
We also see a bodies up to be incinerated and Levine says that it’s a crematorium called the Eternal Flame. In conclusion, Levine says, “I think they give you a good taste of the mood of Rapture, as compared to the last video which showed you more aspects of the gameplay. I’m psyched for the press event next month when I can show you guys more for the first time in near final form.”
We can’t wait either. Bioshock is slated to hit the shelves on August 21 for Xbox 360 and PC. While we’re waiting, you can check out the video of the creepy Medical Facility.
