Crytek may already have moved on to CryEngine 3, but that doesn’t mean the game engine’s second incarnation has been put to pasture. A Korean company has announced that they’re using CryEngine 2 to develop a new MMORPG to be showcased at this month’s GDC.
The game goes by the codename “Project E:st”. It’s a fantasy MMORPG with an Asian theme being developed by Polygon Games. No details yet, but it’s one of the games Crytek will be showcasing next week at the San Francisco GDC.
“The project name, E:st, was selected to show the commitment between NHN Corporation and Polygon Games to develop the best Asia fantasy game,” says Wook Jeong, Hangame CEO at publisher NHN Corporation. “We believe that the high graphical quality realized with CryEngine2, coupled with an immersive storyline, will strongly appeal to gamers.”
NHN is planning to publish Project E:st both in Korea and in overseas territories, including North America and Europe. A closed beta is scheduled to begin in Korea later this year.
