New Final Fantasy Versus XIII screenshot
Screenshots of Square Enix‘s upcoming Sony PlayStation 3 exclusive RPG Final Fantasy XIII, along with those of its brothers Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, are hard to get by. However, IGN was able to get its hands on a new one for Final Fantasy Versus XIII. It features one of the game’s still unnamed characters and it looks pretty intriguing. It’s reminiscent of something we saw last May but with a different take.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII details are pretty limited, but from what’s been dropped by the Square Enix crew so far, it’s about a young heir to the last city in the world. The place is under siege from mysterious forces and the protagonist makes a stand to save the people, the city and the precious crystals that they house.
The game, according to director Tetsuya Nomura, will play a bit like a more realistic Kingdom Hearts with some elements of third-person shooting from Dirge of Cerberus.
If you’re wondering why there are three titles under the Final Fantasy XIII banner, the only explanation given by the creators thus far is that they’re all part of the same universe but are completely independent from each other. Think the “Versus” in the title is weird? It might have something a bit more profound to it. According to translated interviews of Nomura, he wanted to deviate from light magical RPGs and is seeking to establish more realistic and bleaker stuff.
In the old Latin language, “versus” can hint to “a change in directions.” We’re still stumped on Agito, though.
