Lead combat designer Adam Puhl explained that they’ve taken the grapple points from God of War 2 and placed them on enemies, allowing Kratos to grab hold of an opponent anytime and giving players more leeway in combo execution:
At any point, if there’s an enemy on the ground, in the air, wherever, Kratos can throw his blades at them, pull himself into that enemy [or pull the enemy over, or toss the enemy left or right], and perform a shoulder ram. When it hits, the game slows down, so you get this impactful attack, and you can continue to combo after that…the combat grapple is a linker for the entire combat system.
The feature also confirmed that there will four main weapons in God of War 3. Each weapon will have its own magic attack, and Puhl noted that players will be able to do more interesting things with them. Another change is that items now have their own power bar. To encourage players to use them more often, the item power bar will refill automatically.
Sony will be bringing God of War 3 to E3, so keep checking back here for more updates.
