There’s never a shortage of historical simulations from Japanese developers. Usually Koei takes the lead in the genre, and two of the new games in today’s update are indeed from the Dynasty Warriors publisher, but once in a while, a Genki or a Sega will step up with an offering of its own. Today, joining Koei, is Taito.

Taito will be bringing Oedo Sennryoubako to the PSP. This game is themed in Japan’s Edo period, but unlike the typical historical title, it’s not a hack ‘n slasher or strategy-based. Instead, Taito is going the mini-game route. The game is comprised of a bunch of mini games themed in the Edo period, requiring that you ride horses, destroy stones and chop trees. Four players can play together via wireless LAN. A release is set for 2/23.

Koei’s not to be outdone when it comes to the historical titles, although rather than delivering an original title this time, it’s tapping into its vast library of classics for two ports. The PS2 will get a port of the PC title Nobunaga no Yabou: Kakushin. This latest entry in the Nobunaga no Yabou series features a new system called (in Japanese) the “Gijutsu Kakushin” system, where players can earn new technologies as they aim for world conquest. A Japanese release is set for February of 2006 at the standard hefty Nobunaga prices.

PSP, meanwhile, will get a version of Sangokushi VII (Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII). This title has already appeared on the PC and PS2. The PSP version features improved artificial intelligence routines and a cleaned up interface. A Japanese release is set for January.
