Square Enix is looking to change the way operation works in the Europe offices, and so is also looking to change their name. Forming a new entity, they are now to be dubbed temporarily as Square Enix Europe. This office will take care of all the publishing for Square Enix and Eidos products.
Their aim as a new entity is to create “one efficient and powerful structure for game publishing.” Eidos CEO Phil Rogers will be leading this pack, combining the sales and marketing offices, which in effect may very well lead to redundancy, hence, job losses.
Said a statement from Square Enix Europe:
Unfortunately we are expecting some jobs to be impacted directly by this in both Europe and North America. We are hoping to minimise this wherever possible and offer support and advice to any employees directly affected (emphasis ours).
On the other side, all US sales, marketing and distribution roles will be shifted from Eidos Inc to the region’s Square Enix office, under the auspices of John Yamamoto.
In effect, Eidos will no longer be a publisher, but will now focus on developing through the various studios around the world — all of which will report directly to Square Enix Europe.
