New Prince of Persia confirmed for PS3, 360, PC, DS
Lately, we’ve been hearing quite a lot about a new Prince of Persia title in the works at the Ubisoft Montreal labs. Today, we’ve finally gotten some official word straight from a press release. It’s to be released towards the end of the year for the PS3, 360, PC, and DS. But wait, what’s this about cel-shaded graphics?
After much stirring lately, Ubisoft has now formally announced to the press that a new Prince of Persia title is indeed heading our way. How soon, you ask? If Ubisoft Montreal‘s dev schedules go according to plan, you can expect it dropping into retail towards the end of this year.
What’s more is that the platforms for the new game have also been revealed: PS3, Xbox 360, and PC, plus another one specifically designed for the DS. Hmm, kinda reminds you of Assassin’s Creed‘s platform releases, doesn’t it? The DS version is said to even include “an entirely new storyline and new characters.”
As for details, not much have been given. Aside from a projected release date and the confirmed platforms for Prince of Persia, the press release only hints at a couple of other things. Namely, that the new game will be “introducing a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe” and have an “illustrative art style.”
Illustrative art style? That’s definitely interesting. Some of you might assume that we could have a Wind Waker or Okami-style cel-shaded game on our laps come Winter. Wait, cel-shaded?
Well, if you look at Ubisoft Montreal’s record, they just released Naruto: Rise of a Ninja for the 360 late last year. With that in mind, cel-shaded graphics are pretty much within their capabilities. However, if it does turn out to be cel-shaded, it might not sit well with some traditional fans who have already grown used to the nature of the Sands of Time series.
We’ll just have to wait for more details, of course. Screenshots would most definitely be a welcome too – cel-shaded or otherwise. For now, the teaser site from a few days ago is the only thing to go by; yes, it’s a legit site.
