New PS3 Firmware v2.60 incoming: new Photo Gallery, PS Store guest access, DivX update **UPDATE**
After releasing the latest PSP official firmware 5.03 yesterday, Sony is rolling in with the punches. They’ve just announced that the PS3 will be getting its very own FW update (v2.60) soon. After releasing the latest PSP official firmware 5.03 yesterday, Sony is rolling in with the punches. They’ve just announced that the PS3 will be getting its very own FW update (v2.60) soon. No specific date yet, but we do have a changelog!
- Guest access to PlayStation Store – This enables non-PlayStation Network members to browse through the storefront to check out the latest games, demos, videos, etc.
- DivX 3.11 support – Videos in this format can now be played on PS3.
But wait, there’s more! The biggest thing for FW v2.60 is actually this new Photo Gallery application to be installed on the XMB. It’s got tools and other functions which allow you to organize your pictures. It also has a slideshow feature. Here’s Eric Lempel giving us a tour:

The wait is over – PS3 Firmware v2.6 is now out! We’re still waiting for the PlayStation Blog to post the changelog, so check back with us again for more updates on this release.
