New PS3 wattage findings may help lower electricity consumption
Curious to know how you can save hard-earned bucks from your electricity bill while your Sony PS3’s turned off? We are. That’s why the guys over at Aeropause managed to snag our undivided attention when they came out with some PlayStation 3 wattage readings that could potentially help lessen electricity consumption.
Details at the full article.
To be honest, how much electricity our next-gen consoles consume while we play is a totally debatable issue. But after conducting a few updated wattage tests on an unwitting Sony PlayStation 3, the guys at Aeropause managed to discover two significant points about wattage.
First off, when a Sony PS3 is turned off but is still plugged in, it only consumes a single watt of electricity. That’s pretty Impressive considering that other electronics still consume a more significant amount of electricity on their standby modes. But keep in mind that when your PlayStation 3 is in standby mode with Remote Start enabled, the consumption spikes to 24W.
Secondly, if you’re an avid protein folder, you might find this little tip interesting. Running Folding@Home on your PS3 will consume about 215W using the standard visual mode. But you can save humanity with a discount if you enable the Sony PS3’s screensaver mode. That’s a 30W drop from 215W to 185W.
Suddenly turned budget conscious? While we’re not recommending that you play in the dark or without your speakers turned on, we do encourage you to try disabling Remote Start in standby and enabling screensaver while you take part in the fight against cancer.
