New PSP RPG on the block – Chronicle Of Dungeon Maker
A cool new RPG has just been revealed to audiences beyond Japan with the opening of the game’s website. Called Chronicle Of Dungeon Maker, it’s published by Taito and features a rather unique concept. The game has you controlling a protagonist who is a, well, dungeon maker. That means he actually creates the dungeons before mercilessly slaughtering all the monsters that will have quickly populated it.
In practice, it works like this: People in a town may approach the player and have a request. They might want a specific item, or want a certain monster killed. As the hero, you enthusiastically delve into a dungeon to fulfill the wish. Except that the game, at the beginning, has no completed dungeons yet. So first, the hero must expand and finish the dungeons with a number of building parts. Then, after a while, monsters will have set up camp in the dungeon – which the hero needs to kill, in order to receive items and other sorts of stuff, allowing him to complete his quest.
In short, this is exactly the sort of wacky game design only our Japanese friends can come up with. It’s certainly an interesting, if…a little bit unusual idea, but we’re still hoping a US publisher will sign this game; we always hope for more RPG variety on our PSPs. You might want to check out Chronicle Of Dungeon Maker’s website for some screens.
