Dynasty Warriors may have made it out in time for the launch of the Japanese PSP last year, but it was missing one key component: multiplayer play. Koei has fixed that for Samurai Warriors (Geki Sengoku Musou in Japan), a successor of sorts to that title.

The company revealed today that this PSP adaptation of the original PS2 Samurai Warriors will include a four player ad-hoc battle mode. In addition to being a giant leap from the PSP version of Dynasty Warriors, which lacked multiplayer play, it’s even a step up from the traditional console Musou games, which have, at most, two player split screen play.

The game will include a number of multiplayer modes, of which only one has been revealed. In this mode, you and three other players are placed on the same battle field and attempt to take out enemy leaders as quickly as possible. You can beat up on your rival players in order to hinder them in their efforts.

With improved visuals, a number of modifications to the PS2 original, and the new four player play, Samurai Warriors is shaping up to be a holiday treat for the Japanese PSP. The game is set for Japanese release on 12/8.
