New screenshots of EA’s Skate
EA has just got to be one of the most popular (we didn’t say “well-loved” okay?) and well-known videogame publishers in the world today. With a list of hit franchises almost as long as Mr. Fantastic’s arm, EA has definitely established its presence in almost all videogame genres. Now, EA is making its way into the genre dominated by that guy who was an extra in the classic ’80s movie “Gleaming the Cube”: skateboarding games.
If you didn’t quite get what we meant in that last sentence, well, we’re talking about Tony Hawk and the whole Tony Hawkvideogame franchise. That’s the franchise that EA wants to challenge with their upcoming skateboard game, Skate, which, according to the game’s publisher, is “by skaters for skaters.”
The game is said to deliver the actual feel of skating (we don’t really think that’s possible unless they come out with a skateboard-controller kinda like the guitar controller for Guitar Hero II, but whatever) through dual stick control, roaming cameras, and a reactive city built for skaters.
Well, based on the screenshots we’ve got right here, we guess it’s okay to say that this game’s definitely looking good. Without seeing actual gameplay footage, though, it’s still hard to tell if it can actually hold a candle to Tony Hawk’s Project 8. A little competition’s always good, though, and the ones who are ultimately the winners will be the gamers.
Skate – which will feature skateboarder Danny Way – is due out in Spring ’07 for Xbox 360 and PS3. Check out the images below for a preview of the game.
Check out six more screenshots after the jump!
