New Super Mario Bros. Preview for DS
The new Super Mario Brothers for the DS has been shown on this year’s Game Developers Conference and can be played and tested by the guests. This new Mario uses the very old format on how the worlds are numbered because it begins at World 1-1.
Just like the old Mario, world 1-1 would be very easy especially if the player got the Fire Flower. However, there is a new thing added which is whenever Mario gets a particular mushroom, he would transform into a giant that is the size of the entire screen. When at this state, Mario would become this indestructible force. So will this beat the ever-powerful star now? World 1-2 is very similar of the old Super Mario Brothers especially the layout although there are some differences spatially.
Like the old Super Mario Bro., world 1-4 is a mini-castle which at the end Mario will face Baby Bowser. This level is influenced by both Super Mario Bro. 3 and Super Mario World. This is also where the blue shell makes its first appearance on the Mario platform game series. Mario can step and slide it left and right through the level with limited invincibility. The boss battle is your typical Super Mario Brothers where you step on the boss’ head three times to be able to beat him.
I can’t wait to play New Super Mario Brothers for the DS. To be able to get that kind of nostalgia back, is just a great feeling like I’m a kid again.
