Wii into the net and subsequently getting tracked by Nintendo, a man in Australia has been slapped with a hefty fine of US$ 1.3 million – but you already know that, right? But what we didn’t know was the story behind his fateful upload, until now.

His name is James Burt, 24 years old. He got his copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii in an unspecified retailer a week before the game’s official release. He told his friends about it online, but they asked for proof. Well, I guess you know what he used as Exhibit A.

“It’s so easy to get carried away and take part in things you may not agree with,” he said, saying that the fine will have a “devastating effect” on his life. He admitted that what he did was “very stupid” and he’ll have to work the rest of his life paying for it. He was made an example of, and that he will be. To everyone walking along the lines of piracy, he has this advice to give: “Don’t do what I did.”
