Next gen goes brown

Aeropause montageTwo years ago, a friend asked me what my favorite color was. I said I didn’t have one, but now that she asked, I thought maybe I should have a favorite color, something that nobody I knew likes. Cyan, chartreuse, gray, periwinkle, even magenta came up, but after rolling off my mental list of friends and acquaintances, I realized that I knew people who liked those colors, so all of those were eventually scrapped.

Then I looked at the ground, and a thought bubble suddenly popped in my head. How about brown? My friend agreed that she doesn’t know anyone who likes the said color either, so brown has been my favorite color ever since (then another friend pointed out that brown isn’t actually a color, but a shade, but that’s for another article).

Well, unfortunately for me, it seems that brown’s making a lot of rounds in game titles nowadays, as pointed out by Aeropause writer, Nick. He has noticed that even though the next gen consoles have a color palette that boasts of 16.7 million colors to choose from, there are games that are surprisingly drab.

Nope, he’s not pertaining to just fps games, if you’re wondering. Check out this screenshot montage from our source and even you might notice that it’s mostly composed of browns and grays. Interestingly, the screens were taken from various next gen titles: Saints Row, Tony Hawk’s Project 8, Superman Returns, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Rainbow Six: Vegas. I’m guessing that made Nick go, “WTF?!”, or something like that.

Of course, the devs may have opted for a more nitty-gritty slash realistic look. But on a final note, Nick says, “My suggestion to game developers: How about using some of that extra graphics power to produce a few more colours? If you’re going for realism… well, step outside and have a look around! It’s not that drab!

And you, what do you think?
