Nintendo claims the Wii’s even more popular now

Yep, we know it prints money.Even with the sniping comments made by their competitors, Nintendo’s certainly got nothing to feel bad about. They’re making money, quite a lot of it, in fact. Since they raised the forecast for their revenues from the Wii and DS sales, you know they’d have to say something positive to hype the Wii’s standing eventually.

Well, Nintendo’s telling MCV that the Wii’s more popular now than it was on launch day. According to a Nintendo spokesperson, “Many retailers are reporting some instances of higher demand for Wii in the New Year than they had experienced for launch last year.” Most of that success has been attributed to word of mouth, though we can’t say the low price tag didn’t have anything to do with it either.

Earlier today, they also mentioned that they’re expecting to make 20 percent more than they thought they would last year, with around 100 million games sold for their flagship Wii and DS consoles. With that and the whole slew of things people are finding out about the console’s hack-friendly nature and the Wiimote‘s many unintended uses, you can expect Nintendo to be sitting pretty this year so long as they meet the demand. Just have to watch out for the porn though.
