Nintendo Conference Japan: WiiWare line-up announced

Nintendo Conference Japan: Final Fantasy, Pokemon and more on WiiWare - Image 1The latest update on the Nintendo Conference Japan revealed quite a beefy line-up for the WiiWare, a new service which will be providing brand new games (unlike retro games in the Virtual Console) to Wii owners via download. Major game publishers, such as Square Enix and Bandai Namco, have pledged their support to Nintendo announcing the games they will be releasing once the service goes live early next year.

Square Enix will be coming out with Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Chiisa na Ousama to Yakusoko no Kuni (The Young King and the Promised Land) which puts players in the shoes of a king who lost his lands. With the power of the crystals, the king must now rebuild his fallen kingdom and restore himself to a position befitting his birthright. If you plan on picking this up when it comes out, it will be going for 1500 Wii points.

Bandai Namco will be releasing a Wii version of Mojipittan. This word puzzle game, which first become popular in arcades and was later released on the DS and other consoles, has sold quite well in Japan. It is similar to Scrabble with players taking turns as they build on each other’s words using the Hiragana characters they have available.

Nintendo will be releasing Pokemon Bokujou (Pokemon Farm) which lets players transfer their creatures from either Pokemon Pearl or Pokemon Diamond and raise them on a farm-like environment. No word yet whether players can move their Pokemon back to the Nintendo DS after sending them out to pasture.

Completing the list is Star Soldier R and Doctor Mario two classic IPs which will probably be given a makeover by their respective developers. Unfortunately, no specifics have been given regarding these two games but Japanese gamers can expect more information as we move closer to the service’s launch date.

Demos for all of the games are already being made and expected to be available very soon. The WiiWare’s set of launch games are impressive and should please most Japan Wii owners. If this is any indication of what other gamers are going to get when the service hits the international scene, then we can expect a very good reception from the rest of the community as well.
