Nintendo confident, raises forecast for Wii and DS
Nintendo apparently feels very optimistic about 2007, raising its full-year profits forecast by 20 per cent. The company now expects its net income to reach ¥ 120 billion (US$ 1 billion) for the year ending March 31, 2007.
Perhaps due partly to increased connectivity between the Wii and DS, the company raised forecasts for the handheld, expecting sales to rise 15 per cent to 23 million units. DS software estimates have also grown by 22 per cent, now reaching 100 million games sold.
While hardware forecasts for the Wii console remain at the previous target of six million units, Nintendo has raised its previous software estimate of 17 million games for its new console to 21 million.
Nintendo now expects ¥ 900 billion (US$ 7.5 billion) in sales this year, compared to the October forecast of ¥ 509 billion (US$ 4.3 billion).
